Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 – Multiplayer Changes and Balancing in the January 2025 Update

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’s multiplayer experience has been completely overhauled in the January 2025 update. The developers have made significant changes to the balancing, maps, and overall pacing, and it’s clear they’ve been listening to the community’s feedback.

One of the most noticeable changes is to weapon balance. The update has addressed several dominant weapons, particularly in the SMG and shotgun categories, which were often overpowered. The MP5 has received a slight reduction in damage at long range, making it less of a “one-size-fits-all” option. The S12 Shotgun, on the other hand, now has slower fire rate, making it more manageable in tight spaces.

In terms of maps, there are two new additions to the multiplayer rotation: Skyward Haven and Cargo Clash. Skyward Haven is a multi-level map set on a floating platform in the sky, with vertical combat playing a huge role. Cargo Clash is a smaller map that encourages close-quarters combat, with plenty of cover and tight choke points.

The Killstreak system has also undergone a major rework. The UAV is now more of a tactical tool, with a limited number of charges that regenerate over time, while the War Machine has been buffed to have more explosive rounds, but with a longer cooldown. This helps to prevent killstreak spam and promotes more strategic use of these tools.

Overall, the January update seems to have addressed many of the issues players had with weapon balance and pacing. What do you all think about the changes to killstreaks and weapons? Are the new maps hitting the mark for you?
